The Black Magic represents many years of design, work, determination, blood, sweat and tears. It was designed as a "no compromises" approach to a custom built pattern plane. The key feature of this airframe is in the construction. It is made primarily from sheeted foam, and the fuselage box is all wood. The cowl, canopy and belly pan are all composite. These composite parts are made from my original molds with the best materials I can get. These are home made parts, so don't expect european quality composites. However they are much better than most. Depending on the needs of the particular airframe being built, these parts are constructed a number of different ways. The most common (and cheapest by far) parts are made with fiberglass, with carbon tow reinforcement. The belly pan comes with phenolic hard points already installed.

The only special tooling required is a fuselage jig and a flat table.

One of the nice features of this plane is that even though it's a wood plane, it can be built extremely light for it's size. With careful wood selection and proper sheeting techniques, this plane is easily ready to fly at a weight of less than 10 lbs using glow engines. With only slight modifications, the Black Magic makes an excellent candidate for electric power. Specially made lightweight parts are also available as special order items.
